It’s the start of a new half term and the children have returned to school refreshed and eager to find out what our new topic is well it’s all about MONEY!! The children started the week sewing purses/wallets. it’s tricky using a needle and thread but they persevered and they are very proud of their finished products. Each child had 10p to spend each day and they have to pay 1p to use a resource or take part in an activity. As in real life some children began the week spending all their money by dinner time dashing from one activity to another whilst other children hardly spent anything, choosing their activities carefully and preferring to keep their
money safely hidden in their wallets/purses.
However, as the week has progressed the children have quickly realised that they need to choose their activities wisely and get value for money a valuable lesson for the real world!
Also, it’s been lovely to observe some children kindly offering to pay for other children who have run out of money or have lost their money wallets fantastic!
This weekend, when you’re out and about, it would be great to let the children have the opportunity to pay for some items of shopping so that the children begin to realise the cost of every day items.
The children have worked hard to set up a Bakery in the classroom and a Fruit and Veg shop in our outdoor area. As you can see we have some budding bakers in Reception class come and try their cupcakes, especially the chocolate ones covered in smarties. They are a bit expensive, Alexis stated they cost £14, ooh!
So what’s happening next week? In number the children will investigate how many ways they can make different amounts of money using 1p, 2p and 5p coins.
In phonics, they will learn the sounds ‘ve’ as in glove and ‘wh’ as in wheel.
Also, the children will contin-ue to develop their literacy skills, helping their teachers recount what has happened when some money is lost in the classroom it’s a mystery!
Finally, a big thank you to parents who attended Monday’s Parent’s Evening it was great to share with you your child’s achievements. If you didn’t manage to make it please have a word with one of the Reception teachers and we can have a chat after school at your convenience.
