Homework Guidance for Parents
Every Wednesday, compulsory
homework will be sent out to all children from Year 2 - Year 6. This comprises of weekly reading, spellings and maths. Tasks are then completed at home and returned to school every Monday. For those that don't complete the compulsory homework, there will be a homework club that they need to attend (Tuesday lunchtimes). This is to support the children with their education. Additionally, every half-term, optional
topic homework grids are sent out to pupils.
All pupils from Year 2 - 6 will receive a CGP maths workout book, which supports learning in the classroom. Pupils should complete one page from the book as directed by their class teacher. This will be indicated on their homework sheet which can be found on our website (although a paper copy will be sent home).
Remember, parents and other family members can help with any questions which pupils find challenging. Please show your working out and complete the task in the CGP book neatly.
Pupils should read three times a week with an adult and ask them to sign their reading record EACH time they have read, with the title, page number and a comment. Reading signatures mean pupils climb the class reading wall and earn team points! Pupils are also asked to complete a ‘learning tool’ page in their reading journal. This is designed to support pupils' understanding of what they have read.
Words from the statutory national curriculum spelling lists (Year 2 - 6) will be sent home every two weeks. Please practice with your child using the look, say, cover, write, check method.
These activities are entirely optional
but are aimed to support and enhance childrens' understanding and enjoyment of their current topic. Children can present their work in any way they wish, be as creative as possible!
